The Red Tower was built after the conquest of Alanya, by the Seljuk Sultan Alaeedin Keykubad I in the years 1221 to 1226. He served to protect the harbor district, the shipyard and the lower castle hill.

From Outside, the Red Tower is relatively easy to build, It comprises five octagonal floors at a height of 33 meters and a diameter of 29 meters.

Aleppo-born architect Ebu Ali designed the interiors in various sophisticated levels. The cistern housed in the core housing served to provide water for the forty-man garrison.

The cistern is designed as a supporting element of the entire construction.

The 5 floors of the Red Tower are designed differently. The layout and shape of the rooms differs on each floor. This should make it harder for attackers to conquer the tower.

The 4th and 5th floor have been built in the form of an open terrace.

On each floor there are narrow loopholes in the walls.
